Norton Reviews Free With ItsIf after doing some research and being advised not to use MacKeeper, someone still chooses to do so, then you can't help that, but hopefully it wasn't because there wasn't information available. My aim is not to support or dissuade anyone about a particular product, you pick / use or don't use whatever product you want, and live with the consequences, just remember that your decision can effect others, by virtue of whether you are part of stopping the spread, or being a part of it.I highly recommend you don't just look at the current results, but look at the past ones as well. For example, if someone uses MacKeeper because they don't know better, then in some ways the community failed for not getting the word out. Education and information is the best defense, (as with so many things in life). When we are all better informed when it comes to this important area of security in this day of cyber threats, we all benefit. In fact this is exactly the kind of site and test results, that vendors DON'T want you to see, even the ones that do well on the test (because no product is 100%).I am posting this to support the Mac Community. Conversely, a vendor that does maintain a current database might still not be effective if the program itself is buggy. A great engine can be crippled if the database is not updated in a timely manner. Remember, an A/V product rests on two main things, the scanning engine AND the malware database. When I got to NAV I discovered that the original (last downloaded) installer does not work with 10.6 even with Rosetta installed. I had a HD failure and decided to take the opportunity to do a complete reinstall on my mac. I have done yearly subscription updates (like an idiot) since then. ![]() Issue is, do you want to pay $43 to test a product? Every single Antivirus has a trial because of a basic reason: They won't work perfectly on every system out there. 1-2 YEARS ago.Yes, Mac security threats are becoming very big deal, the simple trojan stuff already out there. He went on to explain that because it is security software it's only good a year? I guess even if we are still selling the same version! I was well aware I would have to purchase a new subscription but I am not going to keep dropping nickels in the norton rip off machine.I posted a positive feedback on another download site: "If you have really rewritten it and it really does scans for web threats too, why not provide a free trial so people who have your bad image in mind may change their minds after testing?"Sounds simple yes? Believe or not, some official guy, very high official replied and he said it makes sense and they will try to provide a trial. With those two components dead, Norton Antivirus 11 is now COMPLETELY USELESS. Auto-Protect automatically scans my system in the background looking for viruses when I am on the Internet, downloading email, or using any kind of external disk. LiveUpdate automatically or manually checks for and downloads new virus definition files and updates for all the components of NAV. If you have a specific threat, for example some "click on everything and run" type of user, I suggest every other product which has some testing ability.LIVEUPDATE & AUTO-PROTECT NO LONGER WORK IN 10.5.7!!!Since I updated to Mac OS 10.5.7 on my iMac and my MacBook, the Auto-Protect and LiveUpdate components of Norton Antivirus 11 (NAV) no longer work. (Code: 10)""System extension cannot be used. Please run LiveUpdate or reinstall Norton AntiVirus and restart. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect could not continue. Absence of Cocoa toolbars). While the need is slim for Mac AV products, NAV 11 seems to be a viable contender.Granted, I've only used it for a day but in that day there has been 6-8 hours of use involving having multiple Adobe CS3 apps running during a scan and performance has not suffered.Only negative is that the interface, while greatly improved, is still not entirely "Mac-like" (i.e. I am not worried about getting viruses on my Mac but appreciate the increased level of PC virus detection in NAV 11.It's Universal, it's much faster than NAV 10, and in a day's testing it doesn't seem to have any performance hit on a 2.16 GHz C2D MacBook.Especially considering Symantec's past history with Mac products, it seems that they've finally put out a decent product with NAV 11. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update."Systems Info: Late 2006 Intel Core2Duo 2.16 GHz 20" iMac with 2 GB RAM, and Late 2008 Intel Core2Duo 2.4 GHz Unibody MacBook with 4 GB RAM, both now running OS 10.5.7.While the need for Mac antivirus software is minor compared to in the Windows world, I installed NAV 11.0 Universal in order to have one more layer of safeguarding since I receive and pass along many files from Windows PC users, many of which are not tech-savvy. Cakewalk sonar home studio 7 free downloadEven though it shows everything needed and states the rebate on the register receipt. I have used this duplicate receipt many times in the past for rebates from other companies and have never had a problem with it. They are good enough to give a Duplicate Receipt for anything that they sell that has a receipt. I purchased my update from Fry's Electronics in Phoenix. I despise purchasing anything that you have to send in for a rebate but I was in a hurry and needed an AV update).Anyway, I went through their "rebate dance" and provided everything they required (original disk, UPC code, proof of purchase, purchase receipt). After many frustrating years using Norton products on my Macs I am furious as ever with this company.I have posted reviews before ripping this company (and they were justified) and now I have another. After purchasing Norton AV 9.0 for my Mac I had to go through Norton's "Rebate Dance" to get the promised rebate. If you need my $30 bucks that bad you can keep it and then shove it where the sun doesn't shine. Why do we put up with these rip off companies people. How in the am I supposed to do that. All I can say is NEVER AGAIN NORTON. But since I don't have any of the items required any more (since I had to send in the originals) and they did not give me ANY reference numbers to resubmit to. Now I don't have them any more they tell me I can RESUBMIT. Even though I had sent them the FOUR ORIGINAL items they requested. They don't state that up front, I had to wait 6 weeks to get a tiny post card in the mail telling me my rebate had been denied because I did not show "proper" proof of purchase. I swear I will burn my copies of Norton programs if someone can point me in a better direction. A pox on your house !!!DOES anyone know a better AV and Sytem Utilities than Norton. They steal from you with their rebates (because they know most people will not keep jumping through the hoops) And they just keep putting out inferior products year after year. All I can say is NORTON. Only to be ripped off time after time !!!!Symantec does not understand that the people that would benefit the most from this application are in the enterprise.
